Counterfeit furniture finally illegal in Italy
December 12, 2014
From the 19th of April, after more than 13 years and despite numerous attempts to change the law, the Italian Industrial Property Code now states that all those who produce or commercialise imitations of products protected by copyright can be punished by law as counterfeiters. This is an important step towards the recognition of the rights of companies who invest in and produce works of authentic design on a daily basis.
For years the industry has experienced unfair competition by companies facilitated by a confused national law in full violation of EU rules who have been able to freely market copies of poor quality at bargain prices. The manufacturers we work with proudly produces original furniture always working side by side with the legitimate rights’ holders who are protected by contract and, in recognition of their creativity, compensated with royalties on products sold to support innovation, so the idea, the true value of a great design product, is protected.
