SMALL, FINE AND SUCCESSFUL:
Thonet’s desk S 1200 wins the “Special Mention for special design quality” of the German Design Award 2015 in the category Office. In the competition, which is organised annually by the German Design Council, the small desk for the living environment successfully outshined other products in this category. Ergonomics, functionality and innovation are but some of the criteria for the jury’s decision. The desk S 1200 was designed by Randolf Schott, a member of the in-house Thonet Design Team.
A “Special Mention” in the category “Audio-visual and Digital Media” went to Thonet’s homepage. The Frankenberg company’s online presentation was created by the Stuttgart based agency 21TORR.
The filigree desk S 1200, which was explicitly conceived for use in homes, convinces with its contemporary look and functional details. A decisive advantage of the S 1200 is its compact dimensions – 88 cm high, 110 cm wide and 66.5 cm deep – allowing it to be integrated in small rooms. A well-conceived slanted tubular steel frame forms the basis of the S 1200; its incline makes getting up from the desk easy even in the narrowest of hallways and niches. The footrest assures a relaxed sitting position. Additional accessories help keep order in and on the desk – among them a metal panel, which serves as both a multifunctional reading desk and magnetic memoboard, and two storage boxes of different sizes that provide space for magazines and paper or small items such as pens and paper clips. In addition to the versions with the classic chrome-plated tubular steel, the desk is also available with coloured frames in red, mustard yellow, white, brown, black, grey-green or warm grey.
